2nd annual State of Downtown event will showcase all there is to love about downtown Modesto

The Downtown Modesto Partnership will present its 2nd annual State of Downtown event at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 1 at the Gallo Center for the Arts.

Property and business owners, community leaders, residents and anyone interested in what’s happening in downtown Modesto are invited to attend. The program will feature:

  • DoMo Partnership CEO Josh Bridegroom’s State of Downtown address highlighting the great work that has been done in the past year, including a well-received series of “visioning” discussions, another successful holiday run for Modesto on Ice and DoMo’s First Friday events at Tenth Street Plaza. He also will provide insight into some of the innovative plans for the future.
  • A presentation from Stanislaus County and City of Modesto officials about their Focus on Prevention initiative, a collaborative model that is being used to address homelessness.
  • Keynote speaker Peter Kageyama, a community development strategist and author of “For the Love of Cities.” Kageyama is widely known for his passion about cities and his insight into the emotional connections residents have with them.  He will share successful initiatives from other cities and how they can be applied to Modesto.

The inaugural State of Downtown event in 2016 drew hundreds of people to the Gallo Center’s Foster Family Theater. They walked away impressed by the collective vision shared by a diverse group of people for what the DoMo Partnership calls the center of Modesto’s “culture, cuisine and community.”

“We love our downtown all year long and look forward to sharing some of the great work that is being done to make it even more attractive to residents, visitors and guests,” Bridegroom said. “We are truly excited to share stories of successful strategies from other cities and talk about what’s being done to partner with the broader community to activate downtown and help it realize its full potential.”

The DoMo Partnership was formed as a nonprofit in September 2015 to enhance downtown guest experience and bring renewed attention to the many positive things happening in downtown Modesto. It describes the one square mile as an area of “endless possibility” and the “heartbeat” of the city, where culture, cuisine and community connect in a “comfortable cosmopolitan” atmosphere.
